The cost of the hotels in Canggu is expensive as they charge in US dollars. It was included in the package so not too bad for me. Legong Cottages is next door a bit cheaper. The gaurd said 300,000 R but I'm sure thats negotible. It is smaller, nicer on the beach with good resteraunt and closer to Berawa. The restaurants in the village I liked best were Telega (Josef and Newwman?) and Indah Cafe (Freddy). It is a nice village. I found "Lonely Planet" has a great guide book. I hope you have a great trip. PS. the guy wasnt scary as he was a foot smaller and the knife wasnt very big.
