I think that one could say without reservations (!) that Ubud would be one of the safest places on this earth to arrive at without reservations!! Seriously, unless it's the middle of the night then I'm sure that you'll be fine, don't worry. Just take a look at the new Rough Guide, the one out in November 1998, with the rice paddies on the cover (not the old one with the stone head on the cover) If you can't find it then take a look at their www. site. OR give your selves one night of luxury and book somewhere and use it as a base to find your ideal place? Porque no?
