These are ornate umbrellas that are placed outside the temples and other buildings. There are ususally two of them and they are placed at an angle on either side of the door. I believe they are ceremonial in intent, but you see them everywhere. They can be purchased at the Sukawati market, but I did pass a town where they were making them, unfortunately I don't have the name. There are various styles from one layer to three on the same pole, very colourful with embroidery or colourful pom poms hanging down. I bought one with a cement stand to hold it.
