Let's not make this forum too pedantic or you may wish to ask "why do people post messages with spelling and punctuation errors like 'bargaing' and 'negoiate'"? Probably because they want to say something, using up precious connection time, and haven't time to do a thorough check of spelling, vocabulary and grammar, and there are many for whom English is not their home language. It is the message that is important - I'm sure you never assumed people on the forum were talking of swapping pigs for cows when they talk of bartering. Besides, sometime bartering does come into it. I've had an occassion where I've bartered a t-shirt for a hat in Kuta. If you don't have the cash on hand for goods being offered, many hawkers will try to exhange their goods for almost anything you have that they can use or possibly sell.
