During the last ten months since the economic crisis hit Indonesia, Bali has really begun to feel the effects. A decrease in tourism (and the revenue this brings to the island) coupled with ever increasing prices for basic needed goods is bringing real hardship to many Balinese.

A clothing drive has been initiated and is being coordinated by the good folks at the Bungai Permai hotel in Bunutan, just north of Ubud. If you are planning to be in Bali during the next several months, please consider throwing in your bags, any unwanted extra clothes you might have kicking around. Or, once in Bali, if you find that those great souvenirs you bought are more needed than some of the clothes you brought with you, consider leaving those clothes behind for people who can really use them.

Of particular need are shirts, tea shirts, pants, shorts, infant and toddler outfits, sneakers and sandals. Virtually any summer weight clothing will be most appreciated by the villagers.

You can contact I Made Adiwijaya (Jaya) to arrange a pick up of your donations, regardless of where you are staying in Bali. He can be reached at jayaagung@yahoo.com and his hand phone number is 08123932275. If you are in the Ubud area, you can drop your clothes off at the Bungai Permai Hotel, which is just above the Kupa Kupa Barong Hotel north of Ubud. Ask for either Theo, Thea or Agung.

Terima kasih banyak! Thank you very much for your generosity!
