You'll find Cafe Wayan on Monkey Forest Road in Ubud just south of the soccer (football) field. They don't have much of an "on street" presence as the place goes back very deeply from the road with excellent garden seating the further back you go. Don't sit towards the front...very boring. They are noted for exceptional Balinese smoked duck. This must be ordered a day in advance (and partially paid for) due to the long preparation time needed. Cafe Wayan's smoked duck is especially moist and juicy, retaining all the flavors of the spices and herbs used in the very slow cooking process. Also, their portions are very generous and they do not skimp with the needed side dishes to compliment this feast fit for the gods. When I last eat there...just a few months ago, their price for smoked duck was also about the best in the area...Rp 70,000. Remember, this is for two people so it is a bargain by western standards to say the least. They may have gone up in their price recently. Just about all restaurants are having difficulty staying ahead of increasing costs of their supplies and utilities while trying to be competitive. Their menus are full of price change layered upon price change. Anyway...enjoy!
