Hi Frank,

I've worked in the Y2K area since 1996. My view is that most Asian countries are seriously behind in Y2K areas.

However, the problem is rather overstated (usually by those trying to make money out the issue) in terms of power, water and general day to day living.

The three areas where caution should be exercised are in terms of ATM's/credit cards, aviation and telephony.

Non-Asian Banks may not have their ATM networks up to scratch, or the Telecommunication links may fail. I'd suggest cashing up and backing that up with TC's. Avaition could be wonky, I'd avoid it prior to 31/12/99, and wait to say the 5th or 6th of Jan 2000 (or till any problems are rectified). In regards to general telephone service, be aware you may be out of touch for a day or two (which is the whole idea of Bali!!!).

I must admit that I am concerned that the Cimodo's on the gili's may stop or go backwards!!!!!!!Seriously, I think in general that Bali will be particularly unworried by it all.

A final note of caution - and this is one you may be able to answer - medical equipment may falter somewhat (hope it's not required).

It is salient to note that, worldwide, people are cancelling their Y2K celebrations, cause, like me, their Company's require them on deck during this critical period - usual Christmas holidays are expected to reduce by some 60/70% - best people check with their employers before booking holidays!!!

Thanks,

Bruce
