If it's any consolation to you, let me assure you that you are not alone. Let me share with you the words of an Englishman written in March of 1926 while on board a steamer leaving Bali after his first trip:
"As I stood on the deck of the steamer and watched it (Bali) fade, my heart was sad within me.
The sky is overcast, the rain.
Comes driving up across the plain;
But yonder on the Bali heights
There hangs a haze of golden lights.
Ah! gleams of gold among the hills,
I pray that, in the midst of ills
When life seems desolate and gray,
I still may see you far away."
