Use your ATM - you get a much better exchange rate. We put every one of our traveller's cheques back in the bank when we got home. The very first money changer we went to tried to rip us off. We took our tarvellers cheque back and went to an ATM next door. Got about 40,000 rp more through our ATM. Always got 600,000 rp so we knew we were getting approx $100 CAD. We checked our account when we got home and every exchange was more than we would have been given at a money changer. Best part was - no hassle. I always looked at the rp and dropped 3 zeros and divided by 6. That would tell you approx how much you are paying. eg. If something costs 20,000 rp. divide 20/6 and it is just over $3 CAD. 60,000 is $10 CAD. Have fun. If you go to the money changers don't take your eye off the money, don't let him even pick up the money after he and you have counted it. Take only $100 travellers cheques and then there is no calculating needed. You know if the rate is 6,000 rp the you should get 600,000 rp for $100.
