Chris,
The stories about Bali Belly and polution at Kuta and Tuban are somewhat over the top. I was in Bali last March '98 and found the beach to be surprisingly clean, in fact we saw Bali people collecting rubbish etc on the beach. As you will see the tourists are the ones who leave the mess. The beach traders (hawkers) are no problem, a firm polite no generally is enough, after a while they move on to the next target. Bali belly is a fact and precautions are required, as this forum has spelt out many times you should not drink water out of the tap anywhere, don't have ice unless you are sure it's from a good source eg. hotel, and stock up with plenty of bottled water, it's very cheap at supermarkets. Wash cups, glasses, have tea/coffee etc., & brush teeth with bottled water. Avoid salads ( except maybe at hotel) and street cart food. There are lots of suggestions, just let common sense prevail and your sure to have a good time. I did last year and am going to Bali again this March. You will get all sorts of stories from people about thier experience of Bali, some like it some don't, go with an open mind and enjoy yourself take the country as it is, the local people are kind, courtious & trying to earn a dollar. I hope that I've helped, I would hate to see you spoil your honeymoon with negative thoughts and exegerated views.
