I too could scarcely believe my eyes. There isn't yet a Macdonalds but the way things are going it is only a matter of time, unless the locals of Ubud can see what is happening to change the face of their lovely (still fairly little) town before it is too late and the whole character of the place is so different that the very people they have always attracted no longer want to come and the whole island turns into one giant Kuta. If they allow that to happen then no amount of boutique style hotels will save them.
The traffic is also getting much worse, someone has to come up with some idea on that score too, and I don't mean more roads that would only make it worse.
