BUS:
Would take a long time, many stops, very impersonal. Would be about your cheapest option though. From Legian/Kuta to Ubud on bus was around Rp10-15,000, so I'd imagine it would be around Rp30-40,000?

TAXI: (or even charter private driver):
Would be my choice. Although it would be dearer, at around Rp100-150,000 you would be able to stop at various places, especially around Lake Bratan, Bedulu, etc. If you chat to a few 1st and get an english speaking driver, he'll double as a tour guide as well. He'll be able to fill you in on facts/interesting info on the way. Some absolutely gorgeous places to visit, so you could make a day of it. It's a pretty long trek up there anyway, quite slow through the mountains, especially on the bus.

BEMO:
If your objective is to get there asap and without any hassle this is not an option. Bemo's are really only local transport, mini-buses ferrying people to/from neighbouring towns/villages. You have to get off/on several different bemos to get you right up there. Great way to go if you got plenty of time and want to meet locals. (Like 2-3 days)?

Arranging transport can be done either through your accommodation place, a taxi on the street (they're everywhere), charter a driver yourself from a "transport, transport" guy on the street. Any of these methods are negotiable in cost. Taxi meters usually don't work so you should negotiate a figure 1st. Buses can be booked at travel agencies, on every corner of the street and are fixed prices. Bemos are just 'jump on' basis, at designated stops.

Hope this helps.
Jenni.
