Have been looking up info on buying furniture too. The archives will turn up a bit of older info. The main tips I have got out of my info gathering are:

1.Check that your teak furniture is really teak, and not stained pine
2. don't buy furniture with large slabs of solid wood... it will crack when you get it back to a drier climate.
3. Always personally oversee the loading of your container... don't leave an order and hope to receive exactly what you were shown.
4. Generally check for the quality of the joints in things like chairs and tables especially.. things can look wonderful, but be put together very badly.
5. Try to ensure your furniture has been made from kiln dried timber.

I don't know whether Lombok has a port facility... if it doesn't, you may prefer to get your furniture from Bali, that way you avoid having to ship it first to Bali, then home to the US.

Have fun shopping!
