We stayed 12 days at the Bali Gardenia last month. Key is to keep expectations in line. Hotel is not in a cluster of other pre-fabs on the beach (like Nusa Dua), BUT...its "rooms" are all suites (separate bedroom, living room, kitchenette, balcony), not a typical hotel room; great, friendly staff; a shuttle that operates on a published schedule, including Kuta, Nusa Dua and Geger beaches. Admittedly, if you want to go or return outside the scheduled times, you'll have to pay for a taxi; should be 20,000 Rp or less--under $5 for sure. A couple of middle-adged Canucks walked (OK, it was down hill) from Bali Gardenia to the Tragia store in about 30 mins...the Gerger beach road turn off was before that; the shuttle took 10 mins, healthy "youngsters" could walk it in under an hour, but I guess that's too much work to get to the leisure.
