Nyepi Day in Bali

Has anyone been in Bali on Nyepi Day their
"National Day of Silence"????
Have been told we are not allowed out of our
hotel resort for the day, but the resort usually
does something within their grounds to occupy it's
guests? Does anybody know anything good/bad or indifferent
about this National Day of Silence?
Apparently the street parades the day before are something
worth seeing.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated.....Cheers !!
