The city of Yogyakarta, and the massive Hindu and Buddhist monuments close by, are definitely worth seeing. I stayed at the Bladok Losmen on Jalan Sosrowijayan (street). Phone (0274) 560452. Fax (0274) 560452. Excellent people. Very nice rooms. Volcano hiking close by too.

Yogykarta is its own "principality," and has almost no violence as part of any demonstrations there. It is a university town. i met students from all over Indonesia. Be prepared to "practice English" with very many interesting young people.

There is an interesting organic foods restaurant in the south end of the city runs by women who are also doing a project for street kids. Name is Warung Milas. It is on Jalan Mantri jeron, just one block off off of Jalan Parangritis city bus route.

I flew from Bali to Yogya and back for just over $100 US on Garuda.

Cheers!
