Johns,
The weather in Bali this time of year should be wonderful as always, just getting over the rainy season, probably very warm (hot) and humid as always, with an occasional tropical shower.
There are many great things to do at any time of the year, beaches, monkey forest, bird & reptile park, mountains, Ubud, markets etc, you won't have any trouble finding things to do.
There is no end of yummy foor and fruit to eat in Bali, Nasi Goreng, Satays, great chips, my favourite fruit is Jack Fruit but try all the different sorts there are many. Watch out for the Durian Fruit, I have never tried it but hear it 'tastes like heaven and smells like hell'.
Getting to the far north of Bali takes about 2-3 hours as you have to travel through the mountains and depends on how many trucks you get stuck behind, and travelling to the east takes about 2 hours.
It will definately be cheaper to eat out of Nusa Dua, best place is Kuta, you have more choice than you could wish for, very cheap. Take a blue taxi from Nusa to Kuta and make sure he uses the meter.
One thing you must watch as a first timer is the money cahngers, take your calculator, work out how much you should get and count it VERY carefully, watch out for all those 0000s, as they try to switch 10,000 for 1,000 & 100,000 for 10,000, and can work out expensive if you are no careful, make sure you are the last one to count it before you put it away, they are very quick.
If you have time before you go, I have website that details several of our trips to Bali, it might give you a few ideas of where to go, and also an idea of what to expect in Bali.
Have a great time, I envy you.
