we stayed up in a really lovely place near Ubud with our little guy... great pool and gardens. We hired a car and went down to the beach whenever we felt like it. Ubud is so green and pretty, yet the island is so small thats its not far to the beach.
We have also stayed at candidasa, great protected swimming if your kids are small, but forget surfing there.
