You don't say where you're from. I say this because if you're daughter is North American, she probably won't find anything similar to 'typical' formal dresses that she's familiar with in Bali. There are many factories where she can purchase beautiful material to wear as a long sarong with a sash and a short sleeve jacket (balinese style) for under $50. Our daughter recently turned out a similar outfit by using the sarong with a beautiful sweater from home. If you want brightly- coloured exquisite, festive materials, there's a shop on Hanoman near the corner of Monkey Forest Road in Ubud that had some gorgeous sarongs and tops etc. in the $50-$100 US range, but these are bright, albeit beautiful.
