I'm heading for Bali in a few days and plan to stay at Le Meridien. It's supposed to be a beautiful hotel; however, locals are upset the hotel was even built because the site is opposite a sacred temple. So there have been protests in the lobby as recently as February, and the protesters have blocked the hotel entrance. Had I known the hotel was so contentious, I probably would've booked elsewhere. (Nothing like offending native Balinese by supporting offensive commerce.)
