Well there are some okay beaches its just that I guess I am used to the image of tropical Pacific Island beaches - white, lots of palm trees, wide and clean. In Bali there is quite a bit of rubbish but on the main beaches - Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur etc they sweep them and bury the rubbish. Kuta beach is decent it is just that I have seen it wider and whiter. If you walk any distance towards the airport or stay towards Pertamina Cottages then you encounter lots of groins, tetrapods and not much beach. Sanur also has lots of groins and in places this makes it difficult to walk down the beach. However, at the Bali Beach Hotel end the beach is wide, white, clean and has palm trees. Just outside the Sanur Hyatt it is decent as well. Candi Dasa has no beach full stop. Lovenia beach is nice with no structures and wide beach.
In summary the beaches are not to bad just don't go expecting postcard perfect beaches because you will be disappointed. The water is really warm at this time of the year anyway so a refreshing swim is better had in the pool. It is also cleaner in there!! Enjoy you trip. I am envious as I am dying to go back again and I have only been home one week!!!
