Markets are great for shopping for real cheap bargains. But, the quality of the clothes are not always the best. Example, I bought heaps of little Bad Girl singlets and the seams under the arms are tearing already and some of the singlets have lost their shape. But I'm still happy with them for the price I paid. (About $5.00 Aus each)
I advise you to check out the markets and get a feel for what they have to offer. Then check out the department stores for prices and what's to offer. Once you have sussed out what is available, then go back and do your shopping. But for the surf gear, you can get lots of Bad Girl and Bad Boy shorts(as an example) at the markets that are worth it. I'm really happy with my market buys. By the way, personally, I found the markets about a 5 minute walk from Kuta Plaza were the best for variety and bargaining power.
