Hi Patricia, I posted a reply to you an hour ago and it has yet to appear so I hope this does not end up being a repeat posting.
My friend Barbara and I had a wonderful time in Bali last year. We are also in our middle ages and seem to have similar interests. We met many women in our age group travelling alone and I would not hesitate to visit Bali solo. You do not need a place with a restaurant if you stay in central Ubud, on Jalan Raya or Monkey Forest Road. Wherever you are there will be breakfast and with so many restaruants in walking distance you will probably not want to limit your gastronomic experiences to one place.
