I started off wearing it during the day as well - I had some tanning lotion that contained insect repellent that I bought at home, but that ran out after a few days and after that I only wore repellent in the evenings - a lot of the places we ate in were outdoors or at least open-sided and I tend to get bitten by anything going after dusk, not just mossies! On previous travels I had used aftersun that contained insect repellent, but I still got bitten despite that, so this time I got some much stronger stuff containing lots of DEET which worked brilliantly. It was a roll-on liquid called Mossie Milk which you can buy from chemists and was much better than the sprays which smell terrible and leave the awful smell lingering wherever you spray them for ages!
I also had one of those plug-in things that you put little tablets in for use in our room overnight which I had used in other places before and found to be really useful if you tend to wake up in the morning and find yourself covered in bites. Our hotel actually provided one anyway.
Do you have an e-mail address? If you do, let me know via mine above, and I will send you my trip report which I posted when I got back. We do plan to go back - hopefully in November this year, funds permitting, and we plan to stay in Ubud, Candi Dasa and Pemuteran. We're going to be brave and hire a car so we can really explore the island.
