I love them both and would go back any time.

Bali is a crazy place which is why most of us love it. You can stay near Kuta or choose a quiet spot or resort away from it all.

Fiji is about as laid back as you can get. It is the perfect place to relax. The Fijian's are terrific (throw a lot of water for about 4 days around New Year). You will be in a resort and they go to a lot of effort. The locals join in the fun.

In Bali, you can either party at your hotel or find any place where you want to go out. The Balinese started blowing trumpets in the morning on new Years Eve and didn't stop until after midnight.

At midnight everyone was on the street in Kuta, shaking hands through car windows with perfect strangers. It was the noisiest and friendliest New Years Eve I've had. So my vote if you want it loud and lots of fun would be Bali and make sure your staying in Kuta. You would'nt want to be driving around on that particular night.

Most of the choice comes back to if you will like Asia, and Bali is full on Asia.
I haven't met anyone who doesn't love Fiji but some find the hawkers and other aspects of Bali are not to their liking.

Both places are very beautiful and the Fijians and Balinese are great people and are the most important part of any overseas holiday.

Hope this helps -
