Hi Jeanette,

As far as accommodation is concerned there are some quite good places for reasonable prices but I'm not sure if you want a bit of peace or you want to be in amongst the action. However try these:

1. Bali Intan Cottages on the corner of Jalan Melasti and Jalan Pantai Kuta (the beach road) - across the road from Kuta/Legian Beach with top facilities; 3 restaurants, swim up bar, kids activities organised by the hotel staff, 24 hour room service, TV and phone. Costs around US$75-90 per night with buffet b/fast. Right in the action, walking distance to all the restaurants and bars, shopping etc.

2. Bali Holiday Resort on Jalan Dhyana Pura at Seminyak - right on the beach in a much quiter part of town. Similar facilities to the Intan but a short taxi trip to restaurants etc. About US$60-70 per night with b/fast.

3. Hotel Jayakarta on Jalan Pura Bagus Taruna in Legian - another right on the beach but a bit closer to the Kuta end. About a 3-4 star hotel that has some good bargains at the moment. I think I have read on the froum of deals worth about US$65-70 per night with b/fast. Top class facilities but not much sense of the traditional Balinese architecture.

4. Natour Kuta Beach right on the beach in the middle of Kuta - modern hotel that replaced the Kuta Beach Hotel some years ago. All mod cons etc and prices range from US$80 to US$300 per night.

By the way, these prices are for a double room and you can have an extra bed in the room for a small fee.

As for what to see, take a tour which has an overnight stay at Lovina in the north. This usually includes the old standards such as Ubud, Kintamani, Besakih, Bedugul, Tanah Lot, Sangeh Monkey Forest, Git Git Waterfall, Banjar Hot Springs and a boat trip to feed the dolphins at Lovina. There is some snorkelling at Lovina but if you are keen divers it may be worth a trip to Tulamben on the east coast where there is the wreck of the Liberty, a World War 2 US cargo ship, which is only in about 25 metres of water. Hotels here and at nearby Amed if you wish to stay longer.

Enjoy!!!

Mitch
