There is very little in the ocean that could possibly hurt you if you're snorkeling. You will spend the vast majority of your time on the surface far away from accidental contact with sea life. Unless you slash an arm and thrash wildly in the water you should be allright ; )

You'll be lucky if you even see a shark. They are timid animals and the varieties they have in shallow snoreling waters are small and easily frightened. Barracuda are harmless and the stories about them attacking swimmers are fable conjured up in Bermuda in the 70's. Sea snakes are rare and harmless. The worst thing you could possibly encounter might be a jellyfish and I wouldn't worry about that. Try to relax, concentrate on your breathing and tell your boyfriend to be patient with you. Hopefully you'll come to like it and if not, no sweat. It just might not be for you.
