We went to Bali last July and are going again in July of this year. The weather is really great at that time of year.
We stayed at Legian "Hotel Jayakata" and are planning to do the same again, with maybe 2 days in Lombok. Staying 10 minutes out of kuta is great, but I have not been to Tuban. Ubud is very nice and would be a great place to stay a few day if you want to see the less comercial, more cultural aspects of Bali.
Credit cards/ATM are a convenient way to get money. We used the credit card a few times and the exchange was very good. Travellers cheque have a very poor exchange rate, therefor we found A$ to be the best. Security deposit boxes are readily available from hotels and you are able to access them as often as you wish. These are also a great idea for your passport and tickets. Hope you have a great time.
