We too loved Bali and especially the people. We did get white water
rafting, and I would highly reccomend Sobek. Their guides are very
safety conscious, and the rafting was a blast. We had a brochure that
booked the price as $68US, but we got it for $45 with a quick phonecall to Sobek. They picked us up in a nice airconditioned van,
and took us to the starting point. The rafting trip, about two hours,
was a hoot. We did a few native paddle dances, raced with other boats, doused the rescue guy and a raftful of Taiwanese. The rafting
was safe and fun, mostly class one and two rapids with maybe one class
three thrown in for good measure. My husband thinks I have a deathwish, because I REALLY would like to have experienced some
class fours. But then, I want to skydive, climb mountains, and
whitewater kayak too. Anyway, I digress, I think it is good that
they cancel the trips when the river is too dangerous. For me, the
toughest part was getting rid of the hawkers on the way up the steps.
I KNOW I am in good shape, because I must have said, "No, I don't
have any money" a hundred times on the way up, as my husband hooted
with laughter behind us (I found out later he told them I would buy
something if they bugged me enough- and they did and I did).
