We were lucky enough to get to Bali in October the last two years and the price comparisons are interesting.
October 1997 was before the massive devaluations had hit and the exchange rate was about 2,400 to the AU$.
October 1998 it is about 4,300 to the AU$.
Large T shirts:
1997: 12,000rp or AU$5
1998: 35,000rp or AU$8.14
Increase of 63%
Meal at Poppies:
1997: 120,000rp or AU$50
1998: 305,000rp or AU$70.93
Increase of 42%
These are the only two things that readily spring to mind and I make no comment on whether the relative costs are good, bad or indifferent nor will I speculate on why but it is interesting.
