I don't know from where you get the idea that they have a great record. Or maybe my interpretation of great differs from yours.
They had 8 fatal events / 0.7 Mio passengers since 1970.
You are right insofar as the Airline of the Peoples Republic of China has an even worse record,(13 events) and is the worst of Asian's airlines.
A good record has Quantas (0 events) or Singapore Airlines/SilkAir (1 event). But see for yourself and follow the link below.
