Given that you took the usual precautions with food and water there is not much else one can do.
Sounds like you picked up a particularly virulent little bug that you may have contracted in the same way as you get a cold at home, basically just by being there. Not much you can do about that.
Some of the other postings are spot on when they say you can get that type of problem just about anywhere. For mine, I've had far worse problems with food poisoning at home in Perth than I've ever had overseas.
