Thanks for your input. It's so hard to decide what to do. I know we won't be able to see that much, but 1-2 days will allow us to get a taste of things over there.
Here in Vancouver (Canada), we have a large island close by called Vancouver Island (surprise!). People often take the ferry over for a day. It takes a couple of hours to get there. Other visitors go for one night. The island is approx. the same size as the country Denmark. While you could EASILY spend several weeks in either of these places, you can also have a nice time during a short visit.
My point is, while it may not be ideal to spend only a couple of days visiting Lombok, I think we will still get a chance to experience some of the magic that this island has to offer. On a short holiday, I have to think this way or I will be constantly disappointed that I am not slowly backpacking along like I used to do.

P.S. I also heard about the delays with flights. One person said they waited for about 8 hours. Yuck!!
