Bandung is in Java about a 3.5 hour train trip from Jakarta. It is roughly 150 Km south-west. It is higher than most of the major cities on the island, thus noticeably cooler. It is a university ciry, and the 4th in size after Jakarta, Surabaya and Jogyakarta. We have been there on numerous occasions as there are some fabulous antiques (antiks!) to be had. 'Jeans Street' is a must as is a trip to Tunkuban Prau - the still quite lively Volcano. The Savoy Homann Hotel is a most wonderful piece of architecture and is where we stay whenever we arrive.
