Thanks for your comments everyone and i hope i helped a little. In answer to Rebecca's question re designer stores - no they are not empty - absolutely chocker block full of clothes, and pushy sales people to go with it. But to be honest, not to much of a variety. The signs above each store are also misleading - an Armani store sells everything from Armani to D & G, Versace, Ralph Lauren etc and the same goes for the Versace store. All shops seem to have similar merchandise. It is all basically a good range of jeans/trouser wear, many varities of t-shirts and polo tops, sunnies, handbags and shoes. Not much else - no dresses or skirts or a great variety - but in that heat you don't really feel like trying lots of clothes on.
In answer to Tina's query about the doctor - he was very obliging and could speak what i would call adequate English. He charged us $30 US for an initial consult but when we had to call him back at 1am he only charged us for the medicine. It seemed that he had seen his fair share of tourists who were ill so he did know that my husband did not have Bali belly - did the usual checks etc like when you have a cheack up, but then proceeded to jab a needle into my poor husbands backside before we could ask what it was !!!! It was to reduce his fever and luckily it did. We were extremely careful about what we ate/ did - if you knew me unfortunately i am one of this clean/neat paranoid types who likes to know what i am actually eating. We bought bottled water and cleaned our teeth in it, but as the doctor said - could have got in from the pool, or in ice, or how a restaurant washes its crockery etc. If you need a dcotor one is usually on stand-by in most hotels.
In relation to weather - it bucketed in Kuta the day before we left and due to the severe lack of drains in some areas there was a little flooding - but nothing major - all cleared up the next day. As it is the beginning of the rainy season it is prone to more rain - and thunderstorms and some spectaculor lighting shows. But usually at night time. It did not interfere with our holiday at all - and yes - you can get burnt when it is overcast. As an indication - i was an absolute paleface before i left - and now have a tan from perhaps only 5 full days in the sun - enough to make my friends jealous. Just wear sunscreen - as you will tan even though you are protected.. No sunscreen - you end up like my husband who resembled a lobster on one day and sufferred the next in pain. Just take a good aloe vera moisturiser to help cool down.

Hope i haven't waffled on too much. Happy holidays to a you all.

Beck
