Canggu is a long way out of town - so to speak. Probably a 25 minute taxi at least, depending on the traffic, from even the top end of Kuta.
The beach is a typical west Bali beach. Fairly dumpy, a solid undertow, potential rips all over the place, if you snorkel you won't be able to see your fins let alone anything else.
On the plus side it is quiet.
Depends what you want.
