Did you live there 10 years ago, do you remember the Bali Sand Bar? How about Kayu Api, Labarong or Maxies? I can't follow all these posts but did you say you're asian?

My long stay was 76-77 and I had not been back for 18 years. I offered 10 years based on travellers tales.
Kuta was a heck of a shock. It must be developed 100 times larger than my memories. Gone were the losmens, mango and palm plantations. The walking tracks had been paved and since fallen into dis-repair. 20,000 hawkers have followed the gold rush and if they build anymore shops or hotels I think Kuta might sink.
If I go back again it will not be with my teenage kids. They loved Kuta and all the action that you can pack into 2 weeks. I like to visit Kuta for a party and then get the hell out, spending more like 6 weeks. It takes the first 2 weeks for me to wind down, get over Bali belly, acclimatise to the equator and start to spend a whole day(s) do ing nothing and not feeling guilty.
