However, our travel agent said that JAL flights allow smoking. If you are a smoker, than this may be a good choice as it will allow you to relieve some of your tension by being allowed to puff away. But, if you are not a smoker I would think this would be really gross for such a long flight.
My husband smokes, and I don't. Like you, he is also nervous about flying. He looked into JAL's prices. I told him that he was welcome to fly with them, but there was no way I was going to be on a 20hr flight, coughing away amongst all the smoke. We ended up going with Singapore Airlines, because their prices were excellent.
