We stayed in Senggigi BEach on the west coast and did a day trip down to Kuta on ths south coast.We hired a driver,they come in twos one drives, the other is the guide. We started with Batu Bolong Temple, travelled down the west coast Ampenan, onto Gunung Pengsong,a must to visit, a climb up a big hill, greeted by monkeys to see the most wonderful views of surrounding villages,Mataram the coast,camara a must, can get crowded on Sundays when the locals cone to pray, but deserted when we were there.We travelled further through Banyumulek, Praya,Penujak, Senkoi,Kuta,then back the guide taking a slightly different route home.We visited the Sweta market, Taman Narmada and the Water Palace.
My best advice is to spend $22.00 (aprox) and buy The Lonely Planet Bali and LOmbok it's worth every cent,everything you need to know is in it. The guides were wonderful, we hired a driver/guide and did the trip by ourselves. Cost about $50.00 AUD for 8 hours, The car didn't have air conditioning but with the windows open we didn't need it.
The things you will see along the way will amaze you,The pottery villeges, the weavers, visiting a local village and their house, the markets, the people just doing the things they do every day.
Another day we went ti Gilli Air, another must, snorkelling fantastic beautiful clear warm water.
