Hello all:
I have to admit that I fit the typical American male stereotype of a barbarian with the manners of a goat. However, I am trying to shape up a bit as it seems Ayako hasn't been around too many American males.
Never had a lady insist on pouring my drink.
Spent all day shopping with Ayako. She is interested in leather accessories, so we spent equal time in clothing shops as well as leather shops. Leather is way out of my league, as the only leather items I currently possess are a pair of shoes, a beat-up briefcase, and my baseball glove. Ayako appeared to be suffering a bit from the intense heat/humidity, but insisted we push on ahead. She has given up on the english/japanese dictionary, so we are down to hand gestures which seem to work just as well. Perhaps talk is overrated after all.
Come to find out she speaks better Bahasa Indonesian than English. She spoke with every female shopkeeper, which seemed to work well from a business aspect. Felt a bit sheepish when she would talk to the lady shopkeepers and then they would point at me and giggle. Who knows what they were laughing about.
Check out the Tulus Shop for children's rayon and cotton clothing. The shopkeepers are very nice. Bought 20 dresses (size 1 and 2) for 9,000 rupiah/garment. It's at 119 Legian Street in Kuta. Picked up my clothing tags this morning. I used Deka Grafika at 17 Jalan Yudistira in Kuta. I said yesterday is was near Bemo corner. I was wrong, it's the other way. Sorry, I got a bit confused.
Dinner at Made's Warung last night. Excellent! Unfortunately, our waiter was less than enthusiastic but hey, everyone is entitled to a bad day. Get there early. We arrived at 6:00 pm. By 6:30, place was packed.
Poured like hell again last night. Someone posted a rain forecast, and it sure rang true.
Thanks to all the kind folks who posted about the Pepto Bismol tablets. I was wondering why I wasn't as regular as usual! They're going back into the suitcase. Unsure which is worse - constipation or Bali Belly.
I apologize for not answering all e-mail inquiries.
Sayonara.
Keith.
