Hey folks:

Sorry about the late installment.

My "girlfriend" from Tokyo arrived last night on Garuda. Maybe a bit of explaining is in order since we had never actually met in person. We "met" on the internet of all places on an import/export web page. She too was interested in importing Balinese goods. We've been communicating via e-mail for about 9 months and have been signing off as "your boyfriend" or "your girlfriend". We made a pact that if ever the opportunity arose, we would meet in Bali. Well, here we are. A bit awkward at first with our limited language abilities, but seemed to hit it off just fine. I've been so involved in my law practice and sports that I've been too busy for anything serious. Nice to have someone to talk to again, even if only on a limited basis. However, by the looks of the demographics on this forum, perhaps I should have been communicating with a single Australian lady.

Ayako took a late nap after her 7 hour flight whilst I scoured Poppies I and II for any missed bargains. Found a small vendor with the nicest cotton children's clothing I've found so far. Beige in color. Bought 5 over-alls and 5 one-piece infant outfits at 20,000/garment. Easily 10 bucks/garment in the states. Have about 70 garments to date. Don't pass up Matahari for stuf you can't get on the street.

Had to laugh yesterday at the bank. A French tourist was angry that his exchange rate was so low. Blamed it on President Clinton for "not keeping his banana in his pants." I chuckled heartily. Tough to argue with that.

Staying one more night at the Mastapa before leaving for Ubud on Friday morning. Found a local printer near Bemo corner who can print up 500 clothing tags for US $12. I pick them up Friday morning and then we catch the Ubud shuttle at 11:30. It's about time I indulge in some local culture.

Had a nice dinner (again) at the same place I ate the night before. The name escapes me now, but I mentioned it on Day 3. Nice breeze last night. Quite a romantic spot. Finished dinner about 30 minutes before it rained like hell. Seem to like Bali Hai beer just a bit better than Bintang. Nice and light.

No touch of Bali Belly yet. I'm knocking on the wooden teak desk as I type! My doctor said to take 2-4 Pepto Bismol tablets every day, rain or shine. It's worked so far, although I've stayed away from all salads and the morning washed fruit platter.

I guess that's it for now.

Thanks again for all the great replies. It may sound a bit corny, but the replies actually inspire me.

Take care.

Keith in Kuta, but soon to be Ubud.
