you probably just spent you holiday romance with a prostitute. I may be totally wrong, and I'm sure to get several negative comments about this. However, I've been to a few other "third world" countries where the women need to do anything to survive (I know, it happens in every country so nobody needs to correct me). "Tricking" (no pun intended) visitors into falsely thinking it's a relationship (other than what it truly is) is quite common.
With traditional prostitution, it's a simple equation. Money = Sex. With this other arrangement, the women/girls may not ever have to have a sexual relationship with the person. It can be as little as an "acting" job. They pretend to be your girlfriend and use you to pay for all sorts of things (just as you did). If it never turns sexual, all the better for them. If the tourist never falls head-over-heels in love with the girl, obviously they wouldn't give them cash to spend. In this case, it's no loss for the working girl, as she has probably already received dinner, clothes, and several other items that she would never have been able to afford with another job. It's easy enough to move on to the next guy.
Sorry if this is not the news you wanted to hear. Like I said, I may be totally wrong!

P.S. Please.....no judgemental comments on what I have just written.
I totally do not intend to offend anybody or stereotype. Thanx.
