I usually take a suitcase and buy a bag to put stuff in on the way home. Anything heavy, fragile or expensive I put in my hand luggage - I usually average 35 kilos, and have fortunately never been charged excess baggage, although one time the guy that was checking me in "wanted to help me", and suggested that if I put some money in my passport he would let my luggage through. I did and there were no problems, although in retrospect it probably wasn't very clever. I bring home a rather large bag as hand luggage (a large "Bali bag", which you will understand when you get there), and have never been stopped with that either. When it's all boiled down, everything is so cheap and there are so many good deals, that I figure even if I have to pay excess, I've still got some great bargains! I have also brought home a small set of wooden drawers, pottery and a hammock as hand luggage....

As to what to take, less is more. Just a couple of changes of underwear, one pair of sensible, comfortable shoes, cossies, and not much else - you can buy anything you need over there, and you really won't need much.

Have a great time !!
