I just returned from Bali 2 weeks ago and found that I got the best exchange from the NEW $100 bills. In fact, they even gave less if the new bills were slightly damaged (e.g., staple holes, writing, or having a folding crease). Some places would not even take bills that had these "damages" since the banks are extremely cautious these days. Most places would not accept the old $100 bills -- so, take my advice and go to the bank and get only the newest, crispist, unmarked, untattered $100 bills. You'll be glad you did.
