Apart from the obvious little disaster we had with the lack of power etc
the hotel is reasonably (??) good. I don't want to sound too enthusiastic about the place as we have stayed in cheaper and better hotels in Bali. The rooms were clean, the a/c was efficient, the staff were ok: certainly not over-the-top with beaming smiles. The grounds are fabulous as is the series of pools. The drinls-by-the-pool are VERY expensive. We stayed there last time because we went with friends who had three boys, two of which were twins.. . , enough said. The hotel-supplied baby sitters were hopeless. Just sat there watching telly whilst the kids ran amok. They eventually obtained one in the 'streets' who was spot on.
I really haven't made the place sound too fantastic, have I??. We were actually glad to be transferred down to Nusa Dua as the conditions were terrible. Maybe my memories of it have been a trifle tarnished by what happened. Just one example of how their priorites were set. There is a great restaurant beside the main pool, which, during the crisis had emergency lighting and no airconditioning. It was almost unbearably hot and humid. There is also an arcade of shops which are seldom frequented after dusk which had full power and a/c. Why didn't they just close the arcade and direct the extra power to where it was most urgently needed. (The restaurant was almost full). I, for one, could not fathom the logic behind that one!!
I actually wanted to stay in one of the bungalows which are spread around the vast grounds, but because of the other's children, that was out of the question, so we had 'normal' rooms (on the 3rd floor). as it turned out, we were very lucky. I chatted one day to a chap and his wife who were staying in a bungalow. They had been complaining about the cockroaches and rats that had also taken up residence in their bungalow!!
Doesn't sound too crash hot, does it??
If one was to ask me if I would stay in the GBB again, i would think about it for a second, and probably say yes. In hindsight, the whole series of events were really quite funny, and just about every time we all get together, we laugh about what had happened to us!

There is a 10-pin bowling alley that I was going to frequent every night. Never got 'round to it
.
Was going to play tennis, too. Never got 'round to it... . . . we just lazed around the pools.

H.A.G.H.

Regards

PS. The Putri Bali is fabulous, if you like resort-style holidays.
