1) Where I wrote $ or $a I meant Australian $s, where I put $us they are US $ - sorry about confusing you.

2) We have a friend that goes to Bali regularly. She told us not to worry she has never caught anything. We asked our local doctor who told us not to take any drugs as they might mask any effects in case you do get something. You can only try and get the best advice possible. Also I originally picked up something (very similar to what our 12 year old had) when we were camping (in Australia) many years ago - dead cow in the water supply and the whole camp ground got it. I get "Bali Belly" like symptoms whenever I go overseas and I know when it is coming and how to handle it - don't eat (which does not do me any harm) and only drink simple fluids - water, sodawater, no coke etc. If things were really bad I would have rung the Australian Embassy or gone round to an expensive, flash hotel to get one of their doctors - the Legian Beach hotel had a medical clinic which was open every afternoon.
