Personally, BEFORE spending a fortune on a holiday, I tend to read up on the place I want to go to ... to make sure that it's what I want...looks like someone didn't bother..(as usual).
Bali has its problems, but if you get out of the multinational hotels and make the effort, you'll see a part of the world that will reward your interest tenfold...
however, if you're just looking for a beach and palm trees with paid slaves to wait on you hand and foot...then go somewhere else!
