Dear Natasha,
Our friends always stay at the Garden View Cottages when they go to Bali. Last time we all stayed there and I thought that for a budget hotel you couldn't go wrong. The rooms are quite basic but good..there is a queen size bed and dressing table, fridge, sink and seperate bathroom with bath, shower and toilet. The airconditioner works very well. The rooms are cleaned every morning with new sheets and towels every day.
The bar is open 24hrs a day. There is another bar that opens till around 10pm, this bar has a TV with access to satelite. The breakfasts were very good and very cheap..no need to look anywhere else for brekky that's for sure. There is a supermarket directly across the road, so stock up your fridge with beer and soft drinks from there rather than the bar or your minibar/fridge. There is also a photo developing place right next door. Do not change your money into Rupiah at the hotel, there are a number of good money changers right up the street from the hotel. The hotel provides you with a safe deposit box, use them!!! We left all our money in them and they are very safe. I also left a fair bit of money out (by Bali standards) in the hotel room and it was never touched by the staff.
The pool is very nice and very clean.
All the night life is in walking distance or at the very worst a short taxi ride...probably cost you 3000Rupiah (50cents..*LOL*)..there are a multitude of restaurants near the Garden View. Even the small ones just up the street provided good tastey food at very reasonable rates...I found I could eat anywhere and not get sick, but stay away from eating from the street carts else you WILL get sick.
For exchange rates just check your newspaper financial section everyday, as it changes everyday, at the moment it is around 5000Rupiah to one Dollar Aust.
Hope you have a good time. Tell us what you thought of the Garden View when you get back
