Although milt has a very salient point to make, and on my first view of the traffic, I would agree 100%, I can now say that I feel a lot safer on a bike there than I do in my own country (Melb Aust). The horn is used for it designated purpose (a signal/warning device)
I have used the bike four times there this year and I have now bought myself a new bike which I leave over there. I hired one two weeks ago for my brother when he was there and we got one for 15,000 per day. Go to the bike rental shop directly opposite the Garden View Cottages in Jalan Padma Utara, Legian. You will get one there for that price.
Just remeber Milt is right, it is nothing like where you come from I would suggest, and just be aware and don't ride flat out or hammered and you will be fine. A great way to see the place.
One last thing.......If you plan staying in Kuta Legian, you will be so glad that you have a bike, because you will get from one end of Jalan Legian to other four times faster than any other form of transport in the peak hour as the cars and buses are almost at a stand still and you just slowly weave your way in and out of the vehicles and you move so much quicker.
I hoped this has helped
