Can't comment on the beach at Nusa Dua although most people seem to think Jimbaran Beach is the best in Bali. The whole of Nusa Dua is like a Club Med or Disneyland (where everything is landscaped and beautiful but you know it's not real). We just went shopping in the Galleria there which does have some nice things although somewhat more expensive. It depends on what you want.
It would take about an hour ride up to Ubud. If it's just adults, certainly can do a day trip and take in some of the sights and craft villages (like Celuk and Mas) along the way.
Shopping - we bought colourful bedspreads/quilts, summer wear, children's clothes and shoes, all for a fraction of the price in Hong Kong.
I'm sure you can pack in a lot in 4 days. It's just that we had to move slower with kids. Enjoy...
